Cupping Massage

Cupping Massage

Cupping: This is a technique in which a vacuum is created within a cup using suction and is placed on the patient’s skin; this breaks up adhesions that are blocking the flow of Qi (energy) and nutrients to different parts of the body. Cupping can stimulate lymphatic and blood flow to an area to remove toxins and facilitate healing. It can be used to treat muscle aches, pains, stress, respiratory diseases, high blood pressure and much more. Some are intimidated by the circular marks it leaves behind; however, they are painless and normally take less than a week to disappear and some patients do not have any. Most experience a reduction in symptoms in one session. These are used in a typical massage session, along with myofascial release and have amazing results.

Gua Sha

This is a natural, alternative therapy that involves scraping your skin with a massage tool to improve your circulation. This ancient Chinese healing technique may offer a unique approach to better health, addressing issues like chronic pain. In Gua-Sha, short or long strokes are used to stimulate microcirculation of the soft tissue which increases blood flow. It is also intended to address stagnant energy, (Qi) that is believed to be responsible for inflammation. Becky uses this to complement her massage and break up adhesions or scar tissue formations that are usually related to a complaint of pain or dysfunction. She has seen these tools have amazing results and shorter recovery times. The body is covered head to toe in fascia, so Gua-Sha is quite effective in relieving pain associated with mechanical dysfunction.

Tuina or tui-na (pronounced twee-nah) massage originated in ancient China and is believed to be the oldest system of bodywork. The goal of tuina massage is to create harmony in the yin and yang of the body by getting rid of blockages and disturbances that manifest as illness, disease, and emotional issues. It is one of the four main branches of traditional Chinese medicine. Like acupuncture, tuina massage uses the same energetic meridians and acupoints to balance the qi and blood in your body, leading to better health. Qi that is flowing incorrectly can cause blockages, such as poor blood circulation in the affected area.
